There are a few other basic groups that may be helpful to know:

Fire:

Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Earth:

Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Air:

Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Water:

Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

THE QUALITIES

Cardinal Signs:

Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn

Fixed Signs:

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius

Mutable Signs:

There are definitely other things that are important but it is helpful to be able to identify your own signs element and quality.  Other knowledge is useful as well however it is quite difficult to generalize a lot of this information.  Feel free to ask me anything and I will answer every question to the best of my ability!
